| Played the game yesterday and today, so thought I kick this topic off.
In the beta version you play the map Port Valdez and the gametype is Rush. Rush is somewhat like demolition in MW2. On attack you have to activate 2 bombs. The other side has to defend.
Weapons: Like in previous BF version you can choose to be an assault, engineer, medic or a recon soldier. Every soldier has his own weapons. Like in MW you need to gain points. With these points you get promoted and can choose different weapons and attachements. You can't set perks. You have to get used shooting with these weapons. The sniper is really really poor. You can't hold your breath and looking through the scoop you see blur. Other point is that you sometimes need a whole clip to kill someone with an assault weapon and on the other hand need 2 bullet from a pistol...
Graphics: Port Valdez is a winter snow map. It's very very blue, unnatural. But besides this, graphics look great. The persons aren't as great as in MW..
Port Valdez is a large map. Great is that you can ride a tank, quad etc. as a driver or as a gunner. Reminds a bit at CoD UO.
What pisses me off is respawning. You can choose between 1 to 3 respawn points. Several times the other side was waiting at that point, killin the moment you repawn.
Like in MW you can earn ranks and tags. Achieve something, like knifing several times and you are rewarded with dogtags.
We miss the leaning in MW.... In BFBC2 you can't lean either.... If you wanna crouch you have to hold the button, unlike MW.
Overall: Like Xypriz said, you shouldn't compare BFBC2 and MW.. He's right about that but it's very hard. Positive is that you have dedi server, PB back, no perks etc. On the other hand, graphics in this map, weapons (sniper), respawning. It's more arcade than MW2
I'm not jumpin into conclusion, but i'm not very thrilled about it, but we have to remind it's an beta version. On the other hand, there is not much time to change very much, cause in a month (march) the game comes out.
This is my first impression, who follows.
This is the beta map Port Valdez. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pc-beta-battlefield-bad/61359 | | Back to top | |

| Really hoping that the rules can be tweaked to enable a 'hardcore' version so you don't have to use an entire clip to kill someone.

| Same here along with some other wishes. Will give DICE some time to fix the beta if that's possible.

| Cancelled my pre-order. This could have been a great game - the map sizes are decent, the graphics are good, destructable environments, vehicles, etc.
But...there are so many little things which when added up together stop it being any good. No prone, having to hold a button to stay crouched, having no toggle for aim, movement feels clumsy and slow, aiming speed is just odd, the accuracy of weapons seems off, etc. For me, the real killer is the problems with movement - it seems spongey and while the aim movement is quick the character movement is awful - for someone used to the responsiveness of CoD this is bad; in comparison, Dragon Rising's movement was better than BFBC2.
Disappointed by yet another FPS game. Sigh.

What more to add ? Reading this and shaking my head up and down pretty much confirmes it....
If i need to 'compare' the current BFBC2 PC to MW2, MW2 seems to easily win, even without it's dedi servers, crappy matchmaking and HUGE hitbox area etc etc.. Maybe this is due to being used to the COD series movement & response indeed and thinking and being used to operate within that box/area..iam not really sure.
On the other hand a lot of people seem to like the game though.
Well, back to MW2 as that seems to give me some pleasure and overall satisfaction despites its flaws.

Agreed, m8, we are used to the CoD movement rates and how quickly the game responds to movement controls. When another game lacks this it seems strange. I've read a lot of BFBC fans say 'it's just different, you have to get used to it' but the fact is...I don't have to. The BFBC movement controls aren't just different - they just aren't good enough and I don't intend to waste my time learning how to compensate for a poor system of control.
For a game like Red Orchestra or Dragon Rising I don't have problems with the difference in controlling your character, both these games approach the FPS genre differently to CoD and I expect them to be different. BFBC, however, despite it's slightly different emphasis, IS trying to muscle in on the CoD market and therefore has to accept that it will be judged by players and critics with MW2 as the benchmark. Additionally, BFBC is trying to gain market share from Halo and Quake players and that seems to be reflected in it's controls - in the end it ends up not really appealing to players of any of it's rival games rather than appealing to all of them.
BFBC doesn't stand well in comparison (certainly to MW) and while I expect it to have a constant fanbase, I don't think that fanbase will be large and I think new players will try it, tire of it quickly and move on to something else.

| I downloaded it, but haven't installed it looking at your reviews. Think I am gonna stick to order of war for the moment LOL.
However always in for COD

On the seventh day, while God rested, I over-ran his perimeter and stole the globe, and have been running the show ever since. Ody'02 Sep : 08:51Good/bad new, you decide:
Dedicated servers, sure. But you will only get them from Gameservers.com. Also, there will not be any public server files. Public files would allow you to run the game from your own server, you will have to rent them from Gameservers exclusively it seems. But ranked or unranked servers will be available from this (trusted GSP) provider. In other words, you as the admin will have access to your server and you will be able to configure the server or mod it.
The game will be distributed exclusively through Steam and that means VAC - not Punk Buster. VAC does not have the same anti-cheat savvy that PB has, so we will need to monitor the resilience of VAC to counter the hackers out there.
